Aga Khan Master Musicians is a collective spanning traditions from the Mediterranean to Asia. The lineup: Wu Man is a world-leading player on the pipa (Chinese lute), Syrian-born Basel Rajoub has developed an entirely new repertoire for the saxophone, Feras Charestan is a master of the qanun (Middle-Eastern zither), Yurdal Tokcan is an authority on oud (Turkish lute), and Abbos Kosimov is a virtuoso on the doira (Uzbek frame drum). They are joined by two eminent French musicians: accordionist, singer, and composer Vincent Peirani—whose work spans jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation—and Vincent Ségal, a renowned cellist and bassist. Together they reveal a collection of jointly- created works inspired by ancient trade routes and enduring cross-cultural connections.
