Balourdet Quartet Angela Bae, violin Justin DeFilippis, violin Benjamin Zannoni, viola Russell Houston, cello Terra String Quartet Harriet Langley, violin Amelia Dietrich, violin Chih-Ta Chen, viola Audrey Chen, cello After nearly four decades of acclaimed performances at Stanford and around the world, the St. Lawrence String Quartet introduces the St. Lawrence Legacy Series . This new initiative, in partnership with Stanford Live, showcases three of today’s most celebrated string quartets—ranging from legendary ensembles to rising stars and fresh competition winners. Each group will spend a week on campus in a wide-ranging residency focused on mentorship, collaboration, and community engagement, culminating in a world-class performance at Bing Concert Hall. The Balourdet Quartet and Terra String Quartet are two of the most dynamic young ensembles on today’s chamber music scene, and co-recipients of the St. Lawrence Seminar’s 2025 John Lad Prize. Balourdet has been called “brilliant” by The New York Times and received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award. Terra won the 2025 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition, in addition to top prizes at the Bordeaux, Wigmore Hall, Melbourne, and Osaka competitions. This shared program culminates in a performance of George Enescu’s monumental String Octet.
