The Surge: An Ode to Sinéad O’Connor — Directed and Choreographed by Sonya Tayeh

Sonya Tayeh emerged from the underground Detroit dance scene to become a creative visionary in modern dance and theater. The Surge: An Ode to Sinéad O’Connor is her new evening-length dance piece set to O’Connor’s music. “The sound of [O’Connor’s] voice would pull into my ears and drive down my body,” Tayeh says. “When she passed, that feeling got louder.” The Surge casts ten women, with 500 years of collective wisdom, who explore the power of experience, connecting spirituality and music in a physical response to O’Connor’s legacy.
