Art & Boba Talk with Carolyn Lazard & Jerron Herman

Join us for a compelling conversation over boba with artist Carolyn Lazard and artist and dancer Jerron Herman. This program is offered in conjunction with Carolyn Lazard: Long Take, on view at the Cantor Arts Center from August 6–December 13, 2026. Carolyn Lazard is an artist whose primary medium is iteration. They work across video, sculpture, installation, and performance. Their practice attends to what incapacity makes. In his artistic practice, Jerron Herman is compelled to create images of freedom, his own freedom stemming from the joyful interplay with forms. Carolyn Lazard: Long Take is a multimedia exhibition that begins with a score for a performance and unfolds as a series of interventions that engage accessibility as an artistic material. Made in collaboration with Herman and poet and artist Joselia Rebekah Hughes, the central work, Leans, Reverses (2022), emerges from the relationship between a dance performance, its recording, and transcription (a choreographic score, captions, and audio description). All Stanford students are welcome to join this free program. Lazard will begin with a short talk about their practice, followed by an informal chat with Herman. Art & Boba Talks are designed to be a welcoming space for students to engage with practicing arts professionals. Through these gatherings, students learn about working in the arts and developing an art practice. We also welcome any folks who simply love art and want to join for a conversation over boba, no arts background required. This event is open to Stanford students, faculty, and staff only. Boba is limited to the first 20 RSVPs.
